Inspired by Second Cup

This Christmas cake's design was inspired by the patterns in the Second Cup holiday catalogue. This was a moist Hummingbird cake with cream cheese frosting. It was a 12 x 12 square cake and was more than enough for over 30 people!

Logo Cookies

These cookies were made with edible logos for customers who are members of the Rotary Club. Cookies and their accompanying logos can be made in a wide range of sizes and colours to suit your needs.

Birthday Cupcakes

Even though her birthday is in December, I could not resist putting butterflies on my grandmother's cupcakes because she loves them.  These chocolate cupcakes have Morello-cherry Swiss meringue buttercream.

Christmas Cupcakes

Christmas-themed cupcakes have been very popular this year for holiday parties and packaged as thank-you gifts for colleagues and clients.

Snowflake Cake

This lemon buttermilk poppyseed, snowflake-themed cake was a tasty addition to a winter birthday party.

Super-Sized Snowflakes

These snowflake cookies have embossed snowflake patterns and pretty snowflake lustre dust. They are 7.5 inches across and make lovely accompaniments to Christmas gifts when they are wrapped with a bow.

Jill's Baby Shower

Here is the lemon cake with raspberry buttercream that I made for Jill's baby shower!

Frosty

Frosty the snowman was a jolly, happy soul until he realized he was going to be eaten!  These cookies make great favours for your holiday guests to take home.

Chocolate Fix

This cake was created for my father-in-law's 60th birthday and as you can guess he might just like chocolate as much as me!  This is a chocolate cake with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream and it serves 28. Each piece of cake is accompanied by a Pot of Gold chocolate.

Helene's Baby Shower

Who said that baby shower cupcakes need to look like baby shower cupcakes? When I found out that my cousin was having a boy, I toyed around with many "baby" themed designs but came back to the beautiful hydrangea. I made sure to make them blue in anticipation of "Little D's" arrival.

The monogrammed cupcakes went home for the father-to-be to enjoy.

Mini-cakes

Thinking ahead to the holidays, I thought I would try this recipe which contained allspice. Allspice has a flavour that suggests a blend of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg and its fragrance reminds me of Christmas. These mini-cakes are made with Lindt chocolate and covered with bittersweet chocolate ganache and decorated with silver dragees.

All Wound Up

This pretty spiral cupcake stand is perfect for intimate gatherings.  It holds 12 cupcakes and is available for rent.

Fruit Purees

The only thing better than Swiss meringue buttercream, is Swiss meringue buttercream flavoured with fruit purees imported from France.  The peach coloured cupcakes have passion fruit buttercream and the pink coloured cupcakes have raspberry buttercream.

Dragees

I love dragees.  Dragees are edible metallic balls that come in silver, gold and multi-coloured varieties.  I know it's only November but I could not resist using my new snowflake cutters. I esecially love the lustrous powder that accents each flake.

These cupcakes and the cupcakes pictured below were made for the Shlapak Health Clinic's patients and staff to enjoy with coffee.

These cupcakes have red flowers that hint towards the upcoming Christmas season.  Passion fruit Swiss meringue buttercream is the icing on the cake.

The Writing on the Cake

Gum paste letters are great alternatives to use when adding messages to cakes.  Funky, script and traditional lettering is used to add character or a touch of fun!

Cupcake Stand

I am so excited to be the proud owner of this beautiful cupcake stand and was quite thrilled to get it as an early Christmas present from my mom.  I think she now officially owns a percentage of my company!

It has five round plates (6", 10", 14", 18, and 22") and stands approximately 25" tall.  Perfect for large events!

Icing sugar cookies are soft and fresh and topped with embossed fondant.  Gum paste decorations, such as flowers, are a beautiful added touch.  Dragees (edible silvers balls) can also add pretty details to the cookies.

Whimsical Cakes

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a Whimsical Cakes course at The Bonnie Gordon School of Cake Design.  Allyson Meredith of Allyson Meredith Cakes was our instructor. Techniques used during this class allow us to carve cakes into various shapes and sizes and make cakes that resembles real-life objects from cars to chocolate bars.  The sky is truly the limit.   During this class I made a purse cake.

It's a Girl!

Congratulations to Rebecca and Jarek who welcomed baby Ella Avery into the world.  I made these pretty "onesie" cookies as soon as I found out it was a girl!  The icing sugar cookies are covered in embossed fondant.

Blossoms

This 3-tier, square cake was inspired by apple blossoms.  These pink blossoms were made out of gum paste.

Rebecca's Baby Shower

Since we did not know whether Rebecca was having a boy or girl, I made the cake and cupcakes without traditional baby-themed colours.  These treats were lemon buttermilk poppyseed with lemon cream cheese icing.  I made the pregnant lady on top of the cake out of fondant.

Hooked at an Early Age

When I was making my website I thought it would be humorous to add some pictures of me enjoying sweets at a young age.  I still love desserts, but I can at least make them for others to enjoy as well!

Research....really!

This past summer my husband and I visited Quebec City.  We did all the touristy things we could think of including visiting pastry shops.  I was quite excited that our hotel room window actually faced Paillard Cafe-Boulangerie.  Pictured above was my favourite pastry.  It is called a Religieuse aux Chocolate made with choux pastry and chocolate confectioner's custard. Delicious!

Olson Foods + Bakery

On a recent drive to the Niagara region for a friends' Jack and Jill I was quite excited to visit Olson Foods + Bakery.  Anna Olson is a successful pastry chef who I really admire.  All of her recipes have worked so well for me and they also taste great!

Very Berry

This strawberry buttercream was made with real strawberries.  It is one of my favourite recipes.

Designer Cupcakes

Me and my friend Michelle had a great time attending a two-day "Designer Cupcakes" workshop at the Bonnie Gordon School of Cake Design.  We also used our drive to Toronto as an excuse to sample cupcakes at local shops!
